Christians have long been known as "people of the Book"- the Bible. Is this good thing? Well, it depends on who you ask. For some, Christianity is better for having the Bible. It tells us about God's unfailing love for us in Christ Jesus, after all. But for others, the Bible makes trusting God more difficult. It tells of a God who sanctions violence, encourages us to believe in impossible miracles, and commands weird laws, like "do not boil a young goat in it's mother's milk," (Exodus 23:19). On top of that, Western culture is so deeply saturated with the presence of the Bible that we can be deceived into believing that we know it better than we do.
Starting October 20th, Dcn. Derek Axelson will be teaching a four-week class on the Bible that aims at giving a clear, straight forward presentation of what it says, how it says it, why it matters, and why its witness has been so difficult for us to receive. You will not want to miss this!
