First Sunday of Advent

  • Good Shepherd Nashville 7501 Old Harding Pike Nashville, TN, 37221 United States (map)

First Sunday of Advent — Sunday, November 30 at 10:00 AM

Join us as we enter one of the most meaningful seasons of the Christian year: Advent. On this first Sunday of Advent, we begin a four-week journey of expectation and preparation as we await the coming of Christ—both in remembrance of His birth and in hopeful anticipation of His promised return.

Historically, Advent has been observed by the Church since at least the 4th and 5th centuries, originally as a season of fasting, reflection, and spiritual readiness. While the cultural calendar races toward Christmas, Advent calls us to slow down, watch, and wait with intention. It is a season marked by longing, hope, and holy anticipation.

Central to our worship is the Advent wreath, a circle of evergreen symbolizing God’s unending love. Each week we light a new candle, representing the progression from darkness into the growing light of Christ. On this first Sunday, we light the Candle of Hope (sometimes called the Prophecy Candle), reminding us of the prophets who foretold the coming of the Messiah and of the hope we hold as people of faith.

We invite you to worship with us at 10:00 AM as we enter this sacred season together—preparing our hearts, grounding ourselves in ancient rhythms, and embracing the hope that Christ brings into our world.
