What do Bowing, Genuflecting, Muscle Memory and 'Walking About Zion' have to do with Anglican worship? In this workshop we'll explore the meaning and benefit of both prescriptive and spontaneous uses of the body in the liturgy, such as making the sign of the cross or raising our hands in song, and discover thereby the distinctive ways that they form Christlikeness in us.
W. David O. Taylor is Associate Professor of Theology and Culture at Fuller Theological Seminary and the author of several books, including A Body of Praise: Understanding the Role of the Physical Body in Worship (Baker Academic, 2023) and Open and Unafraid: The Psalms as a Guide to Life (Thomas Nelson, 2020). An Anglican priest, he has lectured widely on the arts, from Thailand to South Africa. In 2016 he produced a short film on the psalms with Bono and Eugene Peterson.
He lives in Austin, Texas, with his children and artist wife, Phaedra, with whom he has produced three sets of illustrated prayer cards (here, here, and here). They also have a book of collects and paintings that will be published by IVP in 2024, Prayers for the Pilgrimage: A Book of Collects for All of Life.
Coffee, donuts and childcare will be provided. All are invited to Morning Prayer at 9:30 a.m. and Midday Prayer at 12:00 p.m.
